Advertisement images work better with less text

There was once a 20% rule when it came to using images to advertise on social media. Basically, only 20% of the image is allowed to have/be text.

.

Now while it may sound a bit silly, it does help for your ads to not be too text heavy. If you want people to interact with your ad, you first have to get them to notice it. The human mind is attracted to ones containing bright, colourful imagery or some form of animation. This should come as no surprise, considering research conducted almost 40 years ago indicates that we tend to notice images and headlines on a page first, then read bolded words after that, and consume block text last.

.

So when designing your next ad, poster or flyer, keep the above in mind. The less words and the more imagery the better. Use the post itself to describe the special or offer and let the image speak for itself.
